20th Annual Lobster Dip

Atlantic Ocean Plunge

Details: Kotuku Choir presents a unique program of New Zealand singing and culture. The choir performs in twelve languages, including the song and dance of New Zealand and the Pacific Rim, original multi-media composition, and an international repertoire.

"A Beautiful Game" By Michael Parent in theater

Details: "A Beautiful Game" is the mostly true story of Michael’s lifelong connection to the game of ice hockey. As the sometimes humorous, sometimes poignant stories unfold, we also hear about mill-town Franco-American culture, father and son issues, and connections between religion and sports. Knowledge or appreciation of hockey definitely not required. "A Beautiful Game" is suitable for adults and young people who can listen like adults. "Miraculously, this funny and dramatic show is fascinating even for those who know nothing about the game (of hockey).

 

A Concert for a Winter Afternoon

Details: “Nice and Naughty,” Sometimes irreverent, but never rude, musicians Cheryl Sager and Peg Chaffee combine instruments and voice to create original music.
“Curt Bessette with Neal Zweig.” A local guitar instructor, Curt has been a songwriting finalist at several festivals. Neal, a lead guitarist and session musician in the Seacoast area, has performed with Curt for the past 3 years. Coffee and refreshments will be available during the performance. Details: North Yarmouth Academy will host a Choral Concert to raise money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Maine. Select NYA choruses, Wescustago Youth Chorale, Waynflete Men's A Capella, and "On the Go," a quartet of the Downeasters will perform to help raise funds towards granting a wish for a Maine child with a life-threatening condition.

Join the Portland Symphony Orchestra, USM School of Music and the Portland Public Library for four free programs in a series of interactive and insightful discussions centered on listening to CDs of symphonic music taken from upcoming PSO concerts and beyond. Scott is joined by special guests to talk about what people hear when we take a peek behind the compositions and discover the fun in classical music. Exhibit: Human Iraq

Details: The Lewis Gallery hosts monthly exhibits of established and emerging artists from Maine and New England. Drawings, paintings, photography, tapestries, weavings, book arts and sculpture are among the media shown in recent months. The Gallery is located in the lower level of the Portland Public.

 

Bates College Museum of Art

Exhibit: Taking Different Trails: The Artists’ Journey to Katahdin Lake.

Where: 75 Russell Street, Lewiston

Open Hours: Tuesday - Saturday, 10:00a – 5:00p

Cost: Free

Details: This exhibit will be filled with scenes of and from Katahdin Lake, known for its views of Maine’s tallest mountain, by artists who took part in a historic public-private effort to preserve nearly 7,000 acres of land including the lake and the old-growth forests around it. Open January 18th – March 4th.

 

Bates College Museum of Art

Exhibit: Wildness Within, Wildness Without: Exploring Maine’s Thoreau-Wabanaki Trail

Where: 75 Russell Street, Lewiston

Open Hours: Tuesday - Saturday, 10:00a – 5:00p

Cost: Free

Details: This exhibit will be filled with images by nationally known photographer Bridget Besaw depict locations along the Thoreau-Wabanaki Trail, tracing Henry David Thoreau’s three Maine treks, which followed ancient Native American canoe routes through the wilderness.. Open January 18th – May 24th.
