Tick Ecology & Lyme Disease

Details: A talk about the deer tick and Lyme disease in Maine will be presented at the monthly meeting of the Stanton Bird Club. The presentation will be by Charles Lubelczyk, a field biologist for the Maine Medical Center Vector-borne Disease lab. He will focus on the natural history of the tick and the disease. Page-to-Stage - Much Ado About Nothing by William Shakespeare "Shakespeare's Lessons on the Complexity of Love"

Details: Sparks fly in one of Shakespeare's best-loved romantic comedies in a fast-paced, yet intricate tale of wit, jealousy, and romance. Reunited in the Italian countryside, old flames Beatrice and Benedick are tricked by their friends into believing that each is in love with the other. Their "merry war" leads to both a sharp examination of dishonesty and deception, and a boisterous celebration of the overwhelming power of love.

"Winter Film Festival: 'Closely Watched Trains' (Czech - 1966)"

Where: York Public Library - 15 Long Sands Road, York

Details: This comic/tragic film, set during the years of Germany's occupation of Czechoslovakia, is admired today out of nostalgia, but also holds up as a wry satire from the years of the Czech New Wave. Exhibit: Fine Art Portraits

Details: The Lewis Gallery hosts monthly exhibits of established and emerging artists from Maine and New England. Drawings, paintings, photography, tapestries, weavings, book arts and sculpture are among the media shown in recent months. The Gallery is located in the lower level of the Portland Public.

Exhibit: Taking Different Trails: The Artists’ Journey to Katahdin Lake.

Details: This exhibit will be filled with scenes of and from Katahdin Lake, known for its views of Maine’s tallest mountain, by artists who took part in a historic public-private effort to preserve nearly 7,000 acres of land including the lake and the old-growth forests around it. Open January 18th – March 4th.

Exhibit: Wildness Within, Wildness Without: Exploring Maine’s Thoreau-Wabanaki Trail

Where: 75 Russell Street, Lewiston

Details: This exhibit will be filled with images by nationally known photographer Bridget Besaw depict locations along the Thoreau-Wabanaki Trail, tracing Henry David Thoreau’s three Maine treks, which followed ancient Native American canoe routes through the wilderness..
