About Creative Work Systems
Mission Statement | History
Creative Work Systems has been supporting Mainers with disabilities since 1967. We have grown significantly over the past four decades and now support hundreds of people each year and employ a staff of over 250 people.
Mission Statement
Creative Work Systems seeks to enable persons with cognitive, physical and psychiatric handicaps to increase or regain self-sufficiency through employment, independent living support, and personal skills development and social/interpersonal opportunities. CWS will diminish the social, cultural, employment, attitudinal and physical barriers which impede participation in community life. CWS is committed to providing these services in the least restrictive, most cost-effective manner possible. Paramount in CWS programs is consumer satisfaction and, when necessary and possible, CWS will modify its services to achieve this goal.
Central to each and every CWS program is the understanding that all people have a valuable contribution to make to each other and to society. It is our mission that by combining this understanding with a standard of excellence throughout all CWS programs, we can make a positive and significant difference both for individuals and for the community.
History
Creative Work Systems (CWS) is a comprehensive not-for-profit rehabilitation agency, serving the diverse and wide ranging needs of persons with disabilities. CWS developed from an association founded in 1967 by parents to provide education and training for their children with disabilities. In the ensuing years, the organization has evolved from serving children to serving adults, but has maintained the community-based grassroots spirit on which it was founded.
Originally located in the Biddeford/Saco area, CWS has expanded its service to include offices in Portland and Lewiston. CWS programs and services provide assistance to over 200 people daily. These services include employment in area businesses as well as CWS owned businesses; residential support; independent and group living; and personal development through comprehensive day programs.
