Community Day Services
Residential Services | Employment Services | Brain Injury Services | Community Case Management
Day Services at Creative Work Systems are designed to maximize a person’s ability to manage everyday life activities in a community rich with resources. People become involved in a wide range of opportunities planned by and for them to address individual needs, goals and interests. Through life skills coaching, individuals grow to become more active members of their community.
Skill building options are offered through multiple mediums including: activities of daily living, cooking classes, personal care and hygiene training, community integration skills, safety at home, work and in the community, communication groups, physical skill building, self expression and awareness, exposure to the arts and culture including music, dance, visual arts, work readiness skills and volunteer opportunities.
Day Services can be arranged through Portland, Lewiston, and Saco. Any level of support is available based upon individual needs.
Community-Based Activities Include:
- Developing relationships and establishing links with community members, including the local business community.
- Choosing activities and developing an ever-changing and
expanding “Monthly Community Schedule”. All activities are related to a monthly theme determined through input from program participants which aligns with the CWS Day Services Curriculum. - Exercise opportunities including access to local gyms, personal training, and outdoor exercise activities.
- Extensive arts opportunities including traditional media, weaving, pottery, music and dance. Art is frequently exhibited at local galleries and other public venues.
- Volunteering for local organizations including an animal shelter, Meals on Wheels, nursing homes, and a food bank.
- Gardening and incorporating harvests into the cooking curriculum.
- Building community independence, including money handling, transportation and safety skills.
- Participating in the CWS Day Services theater group, or music group which offer performances at schools and nursing homes.
- Developing Self-advocacy through group meetings.
Meeting Individual Needs
Individual program plans are based upon the unique needs of each person served. Additionally, Creative Work Systems reviews hours of support with individuals receiving services, family members, and state funding agents on a regular basis in order to insure fiscal responsibility. As participants are able to be more independent within their community through the support that they receive, Creative Work Systems’ support will correspondingly decrease.
Participants receive transportation to CWS Day Services activities of their choosing during service hours; however CWS does not provide transportation to and from participant’s homes unless this is a service provided to them within their CWS residential or independent living program. CWS will assist with arranging transportation for those individuals who do not receive residential services.
